Gnaeus Cornelius Cinna Magnus

Gnaeus Cornelius Cinna Magnus was a Roman politician in the time of Augustus .

On his mother's side he was a grandson of Gnaeus Pompeius Magnus , from whom he was nicknamed Magnus , and on his father's side of Lucius Cornelius Cinna (consul 87 to 84 BC). His father was Lucius Cornelius Cinna .

Cinna was in the Civil War 32-30 BC. Opponent of Octavian , but was pardoned, just as after a conspiracy against Augustus (as Octavian was called since 27 BC) around 16 to 13 BC. In his advanced age he became consul in 5 AD . He died before Augustus, whom he appointed as his heir. Cinna was also pontiff .

Cinna is the eponymous hero of Pierre Corneille's tragedy Cinna from 1641 .
