Since 1918 the place belongs to the province of Upper Austria. After Austria was annexed to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the town belonged to the Upper Danube Regional Authority and from May 1, 1939 to the Upper Danube Region . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place.
Genesis
Two warring brothers - Herr von Gleiß (near Sonntagberg ) and Herr von Hartweigstein (Hinterhaus Castle near Ertl ) - met in battle in the area around what is now Neustift. Herr von Hartweigstein threatened to succumb, was in great danger and promised to build a church in case of rescue. Then fog suddenly fell in, under whose cover he was able to escape. The preparations for the building of the church were made; However, the originally intended place (on Freithofberg) was abandoned after ravens carried the wood shavings to another place and they were found covered with snow in the middle of summer where the church stands today.

coat of arms
Blazon : “ Humiliated divided ; above in green a silver eagle , below in gold the blue uncial letter M, decorated with a cross . "
The community colors are green-yellow-blue. |
|
Justification of the coat of arms: The eagle, here in the colors of the Steyr rule [Note: d. i. the Styrian panther ], stands as heraldic animal for King Rudolf von Habsburg , who in 1280 confirmed the privileges of the "liberated offices" Neustift and Pfriemreith from the clearing time of the 12th and 13th centuries . The M marked with the cross of Christ symbolizes the important, still well-visited place of pilgrimage "Maria, Heil der Kranken", also called "Maria Schnee".
The coat of arms was awarded on August 13, 1973 ( LGBl. No. 63/1973 ). |
