history

In 1280 the Neustift area became a free office of the Garsten Benedictine Abbey . The place is documented as early as 1313 with 7 houses. The name Dörfel (old spelling) designates the old main settlement area, the place Neustift itself was only the small hamlet near the parish church until the 19th century.

The place names in the area, such as the two passes Hals (on the Halsberg,  882  m above sea level ) and Hals (near Platten,  666  m above sea level ) - an old pass name - over to Weyer refer to locally more important old transport routes from the Time of the early modern small iron industry , which was an important economic factor here in the Austrian - Styrian border area of the Eisenwurzen .

Not much had changed about the 40 houses and 200–250 inhabitants of the local area since the mid-19th century. The independent village has not been managed since the beginning of the 2000s, and the addresses have been changed to Moosgraben , a somewhat more extensive location.
