The Roman Catholic parish and pilgrimage church of Maria Neustift is located in the center of the municipality of Maria Neustift in the Steyr-Land district in Upper Austria . It is consecrated to St. Mary, Salvation of the Sick and St. Oswald and is a listed building .

The Sanctuary is the parish church of the parish Maria Neustift, a Roman Catholic parish in the deanery Weyer in the region Traunviertel in for the state of Upper Austria competent Austrian diocese of Linz in the ecclesiastical province of Vienna .

The parish, which is managed under the parish number 4217, looks after 1755 Catholics (according to other sources 1803 Catholics), who are mainly spread over the municipality of the political municipality of Maria Neustift . history

Around 1124 monks from the Garsten Benedictine Abbey built a small wooden chapel. A parish of its own was founded around the year 1200. In 1490 a stone church was built. The consecration of this new church took place in 1493. The church was originally the Hl. Oswald consecrated Maria Neustift was the name of Mercy statue. This also gave rise to the patronage of Mary, Salvation of the Sick, and the name Maria Schnee . The baroque altar of grace was built in 1690 by order of Abbot Anselm von Garsten. After a storm it was decided in 1886 to rebuild the church. The nave and the choir were rebuilt according to plans by Raimund Jeblinger . The new inauguration took place in 1898.

In 1903 the Lourdes grotto was built. The tower was rebuilt in 1931. In 1944, the church bells were melted down as a " metal donation from the German people " - new bells were installed in 1951 with the help of donations from the population. From 1971 to 1974 the outside of the parish church was completely renovated. The interior was renovated from 1982 to 1983. In 1989 a new organ was installed and in 2001 the loudspeaker system was brought up to date. The exterior of the church was renovated between 2008 and 2014.

Church building

The church is a neo-Gothic building. From late Gothic construction of the two-bay choir with a 3/8-final of 1493 are only obtained, which was integrated as eastern side chapel in the new building. Furthermore, according to the stonemason's mark, parts of the tower with the new pointed helmet date from 1524.

High altar

The altar of grace was officially erected between 1688 and 1690 and changed in 1785 and 1908. Hans Spindler painted the sculptures with the assistance of his journeymen Georg Ländterl and Urban Remele and the carpenter Jakob Pokorny . The almost life-size statue "Maria with the Child", an important and finely felt work from 1450, is surrounded by a wreath of clouds, angels and rays. The late Gothic baptismal font has good ceiling paintings from the third quarter of the 16th century.
