Weißenbach an der Enns is a former market town with 483 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2014) in the judicial district or district of Liezen in Styria . Since 2015, it has been merged with the market town of St. Gallen as part of the Styrian community structural reform , the new community continues the name of St. Gallen.

Weißenbach an der Enns is located in the Eisenwurzen Nature Park in the Liezen district in the Austrian state of Styria , at the confluence of the Großer Billbach and the Enns.

history
Weißenbach an der Enns is mentioned for the first time in a document in the 12th century. On January 9, 1277, King Rudolf I gave permission to build a bridge over the Enns, which was built at the same place where the current Enns Bridge is. In the past centuries this bridge was destroyed several times by floods and was rebuilt again and again.
There were mainly three branches of the economy in which the residents of Weißenbach and the surrounding area found work and bread until the 19th century. The iron industry with some hammer mills, associated with the rafting down the river and salt extraction. The first iron hammer mill is mentioned as early as the 13th century.
The abolition of the manorial lords took place in 1848. The local community as an autonomous body was established in 1850. After the annexation of Austria by Hitler in 1938, the community came to Reichsgau Styria, from 1945 to 1955 it was part of the British zone of occupation in Austria.
After the pulp mill closed in 1980, which had given many residents work, the population fell to less than half of the population.

Weißenbach-St. Gallen is located on a section of the Rudolfsbahn and is served daily by several pairs of trains that run to St. Valentin or Linz. The station represents the terminus of regular passenger traffic, stations upstream like the Hieflau station are only served by a pair of trains on weekend days . The Buchauer road B 117 in Altenmarkt bei St. Gallen by the iron road branches off B 115, passes through the village and continue on St. Gallen and the Buchauer saddle back into the Ennstal.
Politics and coat of arms
Herbert Baumann (ÖVP) was the mayor until December 31, 2014. After the 2010 elections, the former municipal council was composed as follows: 6 ÖVP , 3 SPÖ .
Blazon : "In the red shield there is a silver, obliquely left wavy bar, at the top right accompanied by a silver roll of paper turning in opposite directions, at the bottom left by a silver grandel with eight silver ollies."
