Benjamin Harrison's cabinet

Benjamin Harrison, 23rd President of the United States

Benjamin Harrison was elected President of the United States in 1888 , prevailing over Democratic incumbent Grover Cleveland . Four years later, the two politicians faced each other again, with Cleveland succeeding in returning to office, which was so far unique in US history.

Harrison is also the only president whose grandfather has held the office. William Henry Harrison was elected in 1840, but died after only a month in office.

Harrison appointed Secretary of State James G. Blaine and Treasury Secretary William Windom to his cabinet , two politicians who had held these offices under Presidents Garfield and Arthur . Both left government before Harrison's presidency ended.
