Francis H. Dodds
Francis Henry Dodds (born June 9, 1858 in Waddington , St. Lawrence County , New York , † December 23, 1940 in Mount Pleasant , Michigan ) was an American politician . Between 1909 and 1913 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .
Career
Francis Dodds attended public schools in his home country. In 1866 he moved with his parents to Isabella County , Michigan. In his new home state he then attended Olivet College . After graduating from high school, Dodds taught at Farwell and Mount Pleasant for some time . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and his admission as a lawyer in 1880, he began to work in Mount Pleasant in his new profession. From 1892 to 1894 he was the city's legal representative. From 1894 to 1897 he was a member of the local education committee.
Politically, Dodds was a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1908 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , in the eleventh constituency of Michigan , where he succeeded Archibald B. Darragh on March 4, 1909 . After re-election, he was able to complete two legislative terms in Congress until March 3, 1913 . In 1912 Dodds was no longer nominated for re-election by his party. In the following years he worked again as a lawyer. Politically, he did not appear again after leaving the House of Representatives. Francis Dodds died in Mount Pleasant on December 23, 1940.
