Kerry Bentivolio (born October 6, 1951 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American politician . From 2013 to 2015 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Kerry Bentivolio attended Oakland Community College in Bloomfield Hills and then studied at Michigan State University in Lansing . He also graduated from St. Mary's College in Orchard Lake and Marygrove College in Detroit. In 1970 and 1971 he served in the US Army . He was used in the Vietnam War. He later became a member of the Michigan National Guard. In this capacity he took part in the Second Gulf War and the Iraq War. In 2008, he gave up his military service with the National Guard after a neck injury. In the end he held the rank of Sergeant First Class . For his military achievements he was awarded various medals, including the Meritorious Service Medal . His main occupation was a designer in the auto industry for 20 years. In the meantime he also worked as a teacher and farmer. He also tried himself as a film actor. He starred in the low-budget productions Lucy's Law (2010) and The President Goes to Heaven (2011). Politically, he joined the Republican Party . In 2010 he ran unsuccessfully for the Michigan Senate .

In the 2012 congressional election , Bentivolio was elected to the Eleventh constituency of Michigan in the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC , where he succeeded David Curson on January 3, 2013 . The Democrat Curson had defeated Bentivolio in the by-election for the mandate of the resigned Thaddeus McCotter , but had renounced a candidacy in the simultaneous election for the following legislative period. Bentivolio won this against the democratic applicant Syed Taj.

In 2014, he reapplied for his party's nomination for Congress , but lost significantly in the primary with 34:66 percent of the votes against the politically inexperienced lawyer David Trott . As a result, he had to leave the House of Representatives on January 3, 2015.

Bentivolio is married and lives privately on a farm near Milford , Michigan.

Political positions

Bentivolio describes himself as conservative with libertarian ideals. He is close to the tea party movement . He is a supporter of the pro-arms movement and an opponent of women's rights to abortion.
