Herschel H. Hatch

Herschel Harrison Hatch (born February 17, 1837 in Morrisville , Madison County , New York , †  November 30, 1920 in Detroit , Michigan ) was an American politician . Between 1883 and 1885 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Herschel Hatch attended public schools in his home country. After a subsequent law degree at Hamilton College in Clinton and his admission as a lawyer in 1857, he began to work in Morrisville in his new profession. In 1863 he moved to Bay City , Michigan, where he was elected to the ward council in 1865. Between 1868 and 1872 he was probate judge in Bay County there .

Politically, Hatch was a member of the Republican Party . In 1873 he was a delegate to a meeting to revise the Michigan Constitution; In 1881 he became a member of the tax commission of that state. In the congressional elections of 1882 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the newly created tenth constituency of Michigan , where he took up his new mandate on March 4, 1883. Since he was no longer running in 1884, he was only able to complete one legislative period in Congress until March 3, 1885 .

After leaving the US House of Representatives, Herschel Hatch worked as a lawyer again until 1910. After that, he retired. He died on November 30, 1920 in Detroit, where he had lived since 1895.
