Edwin W. Keightley

Edwin William Keightley (born August 7, 1843 in Scott , LaGrange County , Indiana , †  May 4, 1926 in Constantine , Michigan ) was an American politician . Between 1877 and 1879 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Edwin Keightley, whose parents came to the United States from England , attended public schools in his home country, as well as the Lagrange Academy and Valparaiso Collegiate Institute . After a subsequent law degree at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor and his admission to the bar in 1865, he began to work in White Pigeon in his new profession. In 1873 and 1874 he was a district attorney in St. Joseph County there . He then served as a judge in the 15th District of Michigan in 1876 and 1877.

Politically, Keightley was a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional elections of 1876 he was elected to the US House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the fourth constituency of Michigan , where he succeeded Allen Potter on March 4, 1877 . Until March 3, 1879 he was able to complete a legislative period in Congress . Between 1879 and 1885 Keightley was employed as a third auditor in the audit of the US Treasury Department. He then worked as a lawyer in Chicago . In 1899 he moved to Constantine, where he also worked in agriculture. Edwin Keightley died there on May 4, 1926. He was married to Mary Mitchell.
