Harrison H. Wheeler

Harrison H. Wheeler (born March 22, 1839 in Lapeer County , Michigan , †  July 28, 1896 there ) was an American politician . Between 1891 and 1893 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Harrison Wheeler attended the public schools in his home country and then worked as a teacher himself until 1861. During the civil war he served in the Union army between 1861 and 1865 , where he made it to the rank of captain. After the war, he settled in Bay City , where he became an administrative clerk in Bay County in 1866 . After a subsequent law degree and his admission as a lawyer in 1868, he began to work in Bay City in his new profession.

Politically, Wheeler was a member of the Democratic Party . He served in the Michigan Senate in 1870 and 1872 . In 1873 he moved to Ludington , Mason County , where he was district judge between 1874 and 1878. From 1878 to 1882 he was a postman in his new hometown. Then he worked again as a lawyer. In the 1890 congressional election , Wheeler was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the ninth constituency of Michigan , where he succeeded Republican Byron M. Cutcheon on March 4, 1891 . Since he was defeated by John W. Moon in the following elections , he could only serve one term in Congress until March 3, 1893 .

From 1894 until his death, Wheeler worked for the Federal Pension Agency in Detroit . He died on July 28, 1896 in Farmers Creek, Lapeer County.
