Haley Maria Stevens (born June 24, 1983 in Rochester Hills , Michigan , United States ) is an American politician . As a member of the Democratic Party , she has held the eleventh seat of the state of Michigan in the United States House of Representatives since January 3, 2019 . She was elected to this office on November 6, 2018 and was sworn in on January 3, 2019.

Life

Haley Stevens was born on June 24, 1983 in Rochester Hills , Michigan , and grew up there. She attended Seaholm High School in Birmingham and American University . Stevens worked for the Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation Institute in Chicago after 2009 and moved back to Michigan in 2017.

Political career

Stevens became politically active in 2006 when she volunteered for the Michigan Democratic Party . For the 2008 presidential campaign in the United States , Stevens worked for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama .

The investor Steven Rattner hired Stevens in 2009 as a member of the Presidential Task Force on the Auto Industry , where she was chief of staff .

Haley Stevens won the Democratic primary election for Michigan’s second seat in the United States House of Representatives with 24.3 percent of the vote against Tim Greimel , who won 19.6 percent.

She won the election for the eleventh seat of the state of Michigan in the United States House of Representatives on November 6, 2018 against Lena Epstein of the Republican Party with 51.8 percent of the vote. Third place went to Leonard Schwartz from the Libertarian Party with 1.7 percent of the vote.
