Horace G. Snover

Horace Greeley Snover (born September 21, 1847 in Romeo , Macomb County , Michigan , †  July 21, 1924 in Port Huron , Michigan) was an American politician . Between 1895 and 1899 he represented the state of Michigan in the US House of Representatives .

Career

Horace Snover attended his home public schools and the Dickenson Institute in Romeo. He then studied to 1869 at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor . After a subsequent law degree at the same university and his admission to the bar in 1871, he began to work in his new profession in Wichita ( Kansas ). In 1873 he moved to Romeo and in 1874 to Port Austin , Michigan. Snover practiced as a lawyer in both cities. He also worked in the banking industry. For two years he oversaw the public schools in Port Austin. Between 1881 and 1885 he was a probate judge in Huron County .

Politically, Snover was a member of the Republican Party . In the congressional election of 1894 he was elected to the United States House of Representatives in Washington, DC in the seventh constituency of Michigan , where he succeeded Justin Rice Whiting on March 4, 1895 . After re-election in 1896, he could remain in Congress until March 3, 1897 . During this time the Spanish-American War of 1898 fell . At that time the Philippines and Hawaii came under American administration.

In 1898, Horace Snover declined to run again. After leaving the US House of Representatives, he withdrew from politics. He spent the last years of his life in Port Huron, where he died on June 21, 1924.
