Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick (born June 25, 1945 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American politician .

education

As Carolyn Cheeks Jean was born in Detroit and raised, she graduated from the High School of Commerce , Detroit and attended 1968-1970 the Ferris State University in Big Rapids. She then attended Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo . After she received her Bachelor of Sciences there in 1972 , Kilpatrick studied at the University of Michigan , Ann Arbor . In 1977 she received her Master of Science there .

Political career

From 1979 to 1996, the former teacher was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives . In 1996 it was for the Democratic Party in the United States House of Representatives voted. Kilpatrick held this mandate from January 3, 1997 to January 3, 2011. Since she was defeated by State Senator Hansen Clarke in the primary of her party in August 2010 , she resigned from Congress on January 3, 2011 .

family

Carolyn Kilpatrick has two children and five grandchildren. Her son Kwame Kilpatrick was mayor of the city of Detroit from 2002 to 2008, but had to give up this office due to a sex and perjury scandal and was subsequently sentenced to prison.
