Udo Kragl

Udo Kragl (born May 20, 1961 in Troisdorf - Sieglar ) is a German chemist and biotechnologist . He is currently working as a professor for technical chemistry at the University of Rostock . He is married and has two children.

Career / life

Udo Kragl studied chemistry at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn from 1981 to 1987 . He carried out research at Forschungszentrum Jülich in Christian Wandrey's group and received his doctorate from the University of Bonn in 1992 . After a six-month research stay at the International Research Laboratories of Ciba Geigy Limited (now Novartis ) in Takarazuka , Japan , he returned to the research center in Jülich, where he completed his habilitation in 1998. In the same year he followed a call to the University of Rostock. From 2004 to 2006 Kragl was Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at the university. As the founding dean of an interdisciplinary faculty that is unique in Germany, he has not only dedicated himself to research since 2007, but also to the coordination and amalgamation of research in a wide variety of areas. From February to April 2007 he was visiting professor at the National University of Singapore . Kragl has been Vice Rector for Research and Research Training at the University of Rostock since 2015. In 2015, Professor Kragl was named "Professor of the Year" in the Natural Sciences / Medicine category .

In 1997, Kragl was awarded a scholarship from the Karl Winnacker Foundation (formerly Hoechst AG ).
