The 112th Congress of the United States , composed of the House and Senate , is the legislature of the United States . Its legislative period lasted from January 3, 2011 to January 3, 2013.

The House of Representatives and 37 senators (34 Class III senators plus three others to fill seats vacated by death or resignation) were elected in the November 2, 2010 congressional elections. The Congress met in the American capital Washington, DC

According to the constitution, the Vice President of the United States also holds the office of President of the Senate regardless of which party has the majority in the Senate.
