Autowelt König was an automobile dealer based in Wunsiedel in Bavaria . The company had 20 branches at 14 locations in Upper Franconia and the Upper Palatinate and was one of the 50 largest automobile trading groups in Germany .
history
The former company group Autowelt König was founded in 1964 as a family business by Siegfried and Hedwig König. At the beginning of the 1970s, the then Audi NSU Auto Union AG was represented and in 1976 the company became a Volkswagen and Audi contract workshop. In the mid-1980s, the company opened another authorized workshop at the company's headquarters in Wunsiedel. Two years later, König became an Audi and Volkswagen dealer.
In 1994 a new used car center was built in Wunsiedel. By 2003 the company expanded its branch network and opened new car dealerships in Himmelkron , Marktredwitz , Tirschenreuth , Kemnath , Selb , Arzberg and Coburg . In 2003, a new Volkswagen location was opened in Hof in Upper Franconia . In the following year, Autowelt König opened a Volkswagen and Audi location in Burgkunstadt and added Fiat, Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Fiat-Professional to its range. The Fiat dealership in Weiden in the Upper Palatinate was taken over .
In the following years, more car dealerships in the region were taken over by Autowelt König.
On January 2, 2013, it was announced that the König family was withdrawing from the management and appointing an automotive management consultancy as an external managing director.
On March 21, 2013, applications for the opening of insolvency proceedings at the district court of Hof (Saale) were filed for Autowelt König GmbH & Co KG and AWK Auto Verwaltungs GmbH in Wunsiedel and AWK Automobilie GmbH & Co. KG in Coburg . As preliminary insolvency administrators three lawyers from the law firm Dr. Beck & Partner GbR in Nuremberg appointed.
On June 4, 2013, the Hof District Court opened insolvency proceedings. The insolvency administrator also announced the termination of around 120 employees. As of November 2013, according to the Hof public prosecutor, investigations into possible bankruptcy and tax offenses as well as possible fraudulent offenses against the company and the owner family are still being conducted.
Locations
The Autowelt König locations were in Upper Franconia and the Upper Palatinate. In Upper Franconia these were in Arzberg, Bamberg , Coburg, Niederfüllbach , Himmelkron, Hof, Marktredwitz, Münchberg , Naila and Selb. The lease at the Tröstau site was terminated in autumn 2012. In the Upper Palatinate, the locations were in Tirschenreuth, Regensburg and Weiden in the Upper Palatinate. The branch in Regensburg was surprisingly closed in summer 2012. Furthermore, it was decided to give up the VW service at the locations in Marktredwitz, Selb and Naila. The Selb and Naila locations were finally closed completely at the end of October 2012. On May 24, 2013, the insolvency administrator announced the closure of the Autowelt König locations in Niederfüllbach and Hof (Fiat location).
