Sweden took part in the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow with a delegation of 145 athletes (122 men and 23 women) in 102 competitions in 18 sports.

The Swedish athletes won three gold, three silver and six bronze medals. Olympic champions were the swimmers Bengt Baron over 100 meters back and Pär Arvidsson over 100 meters butterfly and Johan Harmenberg with the sword. The flag bearer at the opening ceremony was the athlete Stig Pettersson .
