At the XXII. At the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow , archery competitions were held for men and women.

The Olympic archery tournament was shot as a double FITA round. In the FITA round, the 29 participating women shot 36 arrows at a distance of 70 m, 60 m, 50 m and 30 m and the 38 participating men at 90 m, 70 m, 50 m and 30 m distance each. At the two longer distances, both men and women were shot at target faces with a diameter of 122 cm. For the two shorter distances, the supports were 80 cm in diameter.

The boycott of the games in Moscow by numerous NOKs also had an impact on the Olympic archery tournament. Many of the favored nations were missing who would otherwise also have had a say in the award of the medals.
