At the IV Summer Olympic Games in London in 1908 , two archery competitions were held for men and one competition for women. These took place in the inner field of the White City Stadium .

27 shooters from three countries took part in this competition. On two days there was one round. 72 arrows had to be shot from a distance of 100 yards (91.44 m), 48 arrows from 80 yards (73.15 m) and 24 arrows from 60 yards (54.86 m) per round ; at the end of the day there were another three arrows per distance.

17 shooters from two countries took part in this competition. He had been included in the program at the request of the French because they were not familiar with the complex York Round. 40 arrows had to be shot. Several Brits who had participated in the York Round also took part here at the invitation of the French. The Briton Robert Backhouse achieved the second highest score; he did not receive a medal, but an honorary diploma.
