In the IV. Olympic Games 1908 in London two competitions were in the water jumping instead. The venue was the swimming pool in the White City Stadium , the diving tower of which could be lowered mechanically below the surface of the water and raised again if necessary.

The jumpers had to complete four compulsory and three freestyle jumps from the 1-meter and 3-meter board. Twenty possible jumps with a level of difficulty from 1 to 10. This value was added to the performance mark (up to 10), and the result was then divided by three. In the preliminary fights there were six groups, the two best in each case progressed to the semi-finals. In the semi-final groups, the two best qualified for the final.

The high diver had to complete four compulsory and three freestyle jumps from the 5-meter and from the 10-meter board. There were 14 possible jumps with a difficulty level of 1.2 to 2.1. The judges could award up to ten points for the execution. In the preliminary fights there were five groups, the two best in each case progressed to the semi-finals. In the semi-final groups, the three best qualified for the final. The competition was dominated by the Swedes. They provided six of the ten semi-finalists and took the first four places in the final.
