His greatest sporting success was two years later at the Olympic Games in London . In diving he was Olympic champion in front of two compatriots, it was the first Swedish Olympic gold medal in diving and the beginning of a Swedish dominance in diving that had lasted for several years. Johansson also started in the 200 m breaststroke, but did not finish the competition. Johansson also took part successfully in the Olympic home games in Stockholm in 1912 , this time he started exclusively in diving. In 1908 Johansson was in London, where he was studying at the time, involved in founding the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA). Because of his services to diving, he was inducted into the diving hall of fame in 1982 .
