Albert Cosad White , called Al White (born May 14, 1895 in Oakland , California , † July 8, 1982 in Richmond , California) was an American basketball player and diver .
As a soldier in World War I , he traveled through Europe with an American basketball team . After the war he enrolled at Stanford University and was a member of the local gymnastics team. In 1921 he won the Pacific Coast Conference championships with the team. At the 1924 Summer Olympics in Paris , he won the gold medal in high diving and in artificial jumping from the 3-meter board, making him the first water diver to win both disciplines at the Games.
He served as a lieutenant colonel during World War II and became a city engineer in Richmond , California after the war . In addition, since the end of his active career, he was responsible for diving within the Amateur Athletic Union .
