Vladimir Alekseyevich Vasin ( Russian Владимир Алексеевич Васин * 9. January 1947 in Moscow ) is a former Soviet diver and later a sports official. He became the first Soviet Olympic champion in diving in 1972.

Wassin took part in a total of three Olympic Games, for the first time at the age of 17 in 1964 in Tokyo , where he reached the final from the 3-meter board and was eighth. At the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City , Wassin competed in art and high diving. He reached the finals in both competitions, eleventh on the 3-meter board and tenth on the 10-meter tower. At the European Championships in Barcelona in 1970 , Wassin won his first international medal, he won the bronze medal from the 3-meter board. Wassin experienced the high point of his career at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich . From the 3-meter board, he surprisingly won the gold medal ahead of Franco Cagnotto and Craig Lincoln and thus became the first Soviet Olympic champion in diving. Wassin thus ended the dominance of American athletes in jumping, who had previously remained undefeated in the Olympic competitions from the 3-meter board for over 50 years. After this success, Wassin only started once more in international championships. At the World Championships in 1973 in Belgrade , he achieved his best World Cup placement in sixth place from the 3-meter board. He then ended his active career.

Wassin won three titles in national championships between 1969 and 1972. In 1991 he was inducted into the Diving Hall of Fame .

After his active career, Wassin initially worked for the Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA), where he was chairman of the technical commission. From 1989 to 1992 he was President of the All-Russian National Olympic Committee , since 2005 he has been Vice-President of the Olimpijski komitet Rossii . Between 2006 and 2010 he was also head of the Russian delegation at three Olympic Games.

Wassin has a degree in economics from Lomonosov University in Moscow.
