Paul Günther (born October 24, 1882 in Hanover , † 1945 in Duisburg ) was a German water diver and Olympic champion.

Life

Paul Günther was one of four German jumpers who dominated artificial jumping at the Olympic Games in Stockholm in 1912. He won ahead of Hans Luber , Kurt Behrens and defending champion Albert Zürner . Günther qualified from the tower for the final, but did not compete there. The superiority of the German diver in artificial jumping was essentially due to the basic gymnastics training of the Germans. Since high diving was only held as a championship discipline in Germany from 1925, this superiority only had an impact in the competitions from the three-meter board.

Paul Günther was German champion in art jumping in 1910, 1911, 1912 and 1920. He won his last title for the Amateur Swimming Club Duisburg . In 1988 he was inducted into the international swimming pool 's hall of fame .
