At the 2000 Summer Olympics in the Australian metropolis of Sydney , four archery competitions were held from September 16 to September 20 .
The venue was the Sydney International Archery Park .
The competitions were held individually and in teams. The competition distance for both sexes was 70 meters. Both sexes also shot at target faces with a diameter of 1.22 meters. 128 athletes, 64 men and women each, from 46 nations took part in the tournament. The ruling nation was South Korea, which won three of the four gold medals as well as one silver and one bronze medal.

Christian Stubbe started for Germany . In the preliminary round, he finished 54th. In the first elimination round he then surprisingly defeated the French Lionel Torres , number two in the world rankings. In the second elimination round, however, he was defeated by the Chinese Bo Yang and finished 25th in the final ranking. Starters from Austria or Switzerland had not been able to fight for a place in the tournament.

In the women's race, Barbara Mensing , Cornelia Pfohl and Sandra Sachse started for Germany . While the tournament was over for Sandra Sachse, ranked 54th, after the first elimination round, the other two German starters reached the second elimination round. In the second elimination round, the Olympic individual tournament ended for Mensing, with rank 29, and Pfohl, with margin 25. As with the men, the NOCs from Austria and Switzerland did not have any starting places for the tournament.
