Simon John Fairweather (born October 9, 1969 in Adelaide ) is an Australian archer .

Career

Fairweather, who competes for the Canberra Archery Club , has participated in the Olympics five times . In his first three participations he was 16th (1988), 25th (1992) and 1996 only 54th, until he won the gold medal in the singles of the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney ahead of Vic Wunderle and Wietse van Alten . Four years later in Athens he was only 50. With the Australian team he achieved the best result in 1996 with fourth place.

In addition to numerous national titles, Fairweather won the world champion title in the individual and the bronze medal in the team competition in Krakow in 1991.

Today Fairweather works as an artist and jewelry designer and was married to the triathlete Jackie Fairweather , who took her own life in November 2014. He has been the Australian national archery coach since 2009.
