Michele Frangilli (born May 1, 1976 in Gallarate , Varese Province ) is an Italian archer who won a gold medal, a silver medal and a bronze medal with the Italian archery team at various Olympic Games. He is also multiple world champion with the recurve bow in various disciplines. So far he is the only one who has won a world championship title in all three styles (target, hall, field arch) and was able to win this both individually and with the team. He was also number 1 in the world rankings several times, most recently on June 20, 2005.

Career

The 1.81 meter tall Frangilli won silver with the Italian team at the 1995 World Outdoor Championships in Jakarta, behind the team from South Korea. At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta Frangilli reached sixth place in the individual competition, with the team he won the bronze medal. In 1997 he won bronze again at the World Indoor Championships, in 1999 the Italians finished second behind the Australians in the hall. At the outdoor world championships in Riom, France, Matteo Bisiani , Ilario Di Buò and Michele Frangilli won the team title against the team from South Korea. A year later, the South Koreans were able to return the favor in the Olympic final and won gold from the Italians. In 2001 Frangilli was again part of the Italian World Cup squad when the team again won silver behind the Koreans. In 2003 the Italian team won gold at the World Indoor Championships. The team received bronze at the outdoor world championship, while Frangilli won the title in the individual ranking and became the first Italian individual world champion in the Olympic archery class. At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, the Italians only achieved seventh place.

Eight years later he took part again in the Olympic Games and won gold in the men's championship at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London , together with Marco Galiazzo and Mauro Nespoli .

Frangilli is a sports soldier in the Italian Air Force and still holds two world records in archery.
