NGC 2281 is a galactic open star cluster of the Trumpler-type I3p in the constellation Fuhrmann in the northern sky . It has an angular dimension of 25.0 ′ × 25.0 ′ and an apparent magnitude of 5.4 mag. The cluster is about 1,800 light years away and contains around 30 stars . At 300 million years old, the cluster has made one and a half orbits around the center of the Milky Way and is expected to completely disintegrate during the upcoming galactic orbit.
The object was on March 4, 1788 by Wilhelm Herschel .
