NGC 2286 is an open star cluster of the Trumpler type IV3m in the constellation Unicorn in the southern sky . It has a diameter of 15 arc minutes and an apparent magnitude of 7.5 mag. The cluster is around 10,000 light years from the solar system.
The object was discovered on January 6, 1785 by William Herschel .
