NGC 2268 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBbc in the constellation Giraffe in the northern sky . It is an estimated 106 million light years away from the Milky Way and about 80,000 light years in diameter.
Together with NGC 2276 , NGC 2300 , IC 455 , IC 469 , IC 499 and IC 512 u. a. it forms the NGC 2276 group .

The Type Ia supernova SN 1982B was observed here.

The object was discovered in 1871 by the astronomer Alphonse Borrelly using a 182 mm telescope and was later listed by Johan Dreyer in his New General Catalog .
