NGC 2249 is a globular cluster in the large Magellanic Cloud in the constellation Swordfish . It was discovered by the astronomer John Herschel on December 23, 1834 .
In various studies, the age of the star cluster is estimated at 275 million to a billion years, its metallicity at −0.4 to −0.47. The evaluation of an observation with the Hubble Space Telescope of the star cluster shows that it has 22,000 times the mass of the Sun and 46,000 times the luminosity .
