NGC 2228 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 in the constellation Dorado in the southern sky . It is an estimated 107 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 40,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky are the galaxies NGC 2229 , NGC 2230 , NGC 2233 , NGC 2235 , among others .
The object was discovered by John Herschel on January 31, 1835 .
