NGC 2223 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBb in the constellation Great Dog south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 114 million light-years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 105,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy NGC 2227 .
The type II supernova SN 1993K was observed here.
The object was discovered by John Herschel on January 23, 1835 .
