NGC 2212 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Great Dog south of the celestial equator . It is an estimated 83 million light years from the Milky Way and about 35,000 light years in diameter. Presumably it forms a gravitationally bound galaxy pair together with NGC 2211 .
The object was discovered by Francis Leavenworth on December 11, 1885 .
