NGC 2227 is a barred spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBc in the constellation Great Dog south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 93 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 60,000 ly.
In the same area of the sky is the galaxy NGC 2223 .
The Type Ia supernova SN 1986O was observed here.
The property was built on January 27, 1835 by John Herschel .
