NGC 2251 is a galactic open star cluster of the Trumpler type III2p in the constellation Monoceros north of the celestial equator . It has a diameter of 10 arc minutes and an apparent magnitude of 7.3 mag.
The object was discovered on December 26, 1783 by William Herschel .
