NGC 2259 is a galactic open star cluster of the Trumpler type II2p in the constellation Monoceros north of the celestial equator . It has a diameter of 3.5 arc minutes and an apparent magnitude of 10.8 mag.
The object was discovered on January 1st, 1787 by William Herschel .
