NGC 2188 is a bar-spiral galaxy of the Hubble-type SBm in the constellation Dove in the southern sky . It is estimated to be 25 million light years from the Milky Way and about 50,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered by John Herschel on January 9, 1836 .
