NGC 2174 is an H-II - emission nebula in the constellation Orion, which is about 6400 light-years from the Earth 's center.
The size of the nebula is about 40 minutes of arc . The diameter is 75 light years. It is also called the Monkey Head Nebula because it resembles the head of a macaque .
The object was discovered by Édouard Stephan on February 6, 1877 .
