NGC 2178 is an elliptical galaxy from the Hubble type E1 in the constellation Pictor the southern sky . It is estimated to be 351 million light years from the Milky Way and about 95,000 ly in diameter.
The object was discovered by John Herschel on January 31, 1835 .
