NGC 2169 is the name of an open star cluster in the northern part of the constellation Orion . NGC 2169 has an angular diameter of 6 arc minutes and a magnitude of 5.9 mag. With an age of only 120 million years, NGC 2169 is very compact and also contains the relatively short-lived and luminous B-stars .
NGC 2169 was probably first described by Giovanni Battista Hodierna around 1654; William Herschel discovered it independently on October 12, 1782. The shape of the pile is very reminiscent of the number 37.
