NGC 2179 is a lenticular galaxy of the Hubble type SB0 / a in the constellation Rabbit south of the celestial equator . It is estimated to be 121 million light years from the Milky Way and about 40,000 light years in diameter.
The object was discovered on November 21, 1835 by the astronomer John Herschel .
