NGC 2196 is a spiral galaxy with extensive star formation regions of the Hubble type Sa in the constellation Rabbit near the celestial equator . It is around 96 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of around 85,000 light years .
The object was discovered on November 20, 1784 by the astronomer William Herschel with a 48 cm telescope.
