Argent-sur-Sauldre is (Argent at the Sauldre) a French municipality with 2102 inhabitants (1 January 2017) in the department of Cher in the region Center-Val de Loire .

The small town in the Sologne is 170 kilometers south of Paris , near Orléans (60 km), Bourges (55 km) and Gien (20 km) on the Grande Sauldre, the more important of the two origins of the Sauldre , a right tributary of the Cher . To the north-west of the village is, partly on the territory of the municipality, with an artificially created pond, the Étang du Puits , the largest standing body of water in the French natural area of Sologne.
history
The place Argent was probably founded in the 8th century. In 1223 he is known with the neighboring town of Clémont to the west as the property of a Guillaume de Seuly.

- a castle built between 1776 and 1778, the Château de Saint-Maur (listed since 2002)

Leisure and Tourism
Argent has a campsite. The neighboring town of Aubigny-sur-Nère, located to the south, can be reached on rails by bicycle draisines . The Étang du Puits offers u. a. the possibility of boat trips. There is a cinema in the village, several events (e.g. the May rose festival (French: Fête de la rose de mai ) and sporting competitions) take place during the year.
Economy and Infrastructure
The clay soil led to a brick industry as early as the 8th century, the Gien faiences have their material origin here. Since 1847 pottery has been produced industrially in the village. At the beginning of the 20th century u. a. Quarries and a wood and clothing industry. Argent also owed its economic boom to its favorable location as a junction of roads, railways and the canal.
Transport links
The city's train station connected them with Bourges and Orleans as well as with Gien via a partially still existing, standard-gauge railway line and with Romorantin and Le Blanc via the narrow-gauge Chemin de fer du Blanc-Argent, which was discontinued in 1939 . The narrow-gauge railway from La Guerche-sur-l'Aubois , which also ends here , was shut down in 1948.
Argent is the intersection of several department roads , the most important being the former national road 140 , which was downgraded to the D 940 in this area. Regional buses are currently running to Bourges and Gien.
The Canal de la Sauldre , built in the middle of the 19th century, runs through the municipality and the village of Argent, although it no longer functions as a shipping route.
