The Sauldre (also: Grande Sauldre ) is a river in France , in the Center-Val de Loire region . Its source is in the hill country of Sancerre , in the municipality of Humbligny , around 270 meters above sea level. The river first drains to the northwest, then turns to the southwest and flows into the Cher after about 184 kilometers east of Châtillon-sur-Cher as a right tributary . On its way, the Sauldre crosses the Sologne landscape and touches the Cher and Loir-et-Cher departments .
The river called Grande Sauldre in the upper reaches changes its name after the confluence with the Petite Sauldre and is only called Sauldre from then on , but the entire river is always viewed as a unit.
The water of the Sauldre supplies the former shipping canals Canal de la Sauldre and Canal de Berry .
