Salbris is a French municipality with 5166 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Loir-et-Cher in the region Center-Val de Loire . Salbris belongs to the Romorantin-Lanthenay arrondissement and is the main town ( chef-lieu ) of the canton of La Sologne .
geography
The community is located in the forest and lake-rich landscape of Sologne . Salbris is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Nouan-le-Fuzelier in the north, Pierrefitte-sur-Sauldre in the northeast, Souesmes in the east, Nançay in the southeast, Theillay in the south, Romorantin-Lanthenay and La Ferté-Imbault in the southwest, Marcilly-en-Gault to the west and Saint-Viâtre to the northwest. The place Salbris is traversed by the Sauldre and the small river Coussin . The municipality includes a large number of watercourses, the more important ones: Petite Sauldre , Naon and Méant . The A71 autoroute runs through the municipality from Orléans to Clermont-Ferrand .

Salbris is first mentioned in 855 as a property of the Abbey of Saint-Sulpice de Bourges.
