Villefranche-sur-Cher is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Romorantin-Lanthenay in the north, Villeherviers in the northeast, Langon in the east, Saint-Julien-sur-Cher in the south, La Chapelle-Montmartin in the south and southwest, Gièvres in the west and southwest and Pruniers -en-Sologne in the north-west.
The A85 autoroute and the former Route nationale 76 run through the municipality .
