Sainte-Montaine is located about 40 kilometers north-northwest of Bourges on the Petite Sauldre . Sainte-Montaine is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Clémont in the north, Argent-sur-Sauldre in the northeast, Aubigny-sur-Nère in the east, Ennordres in the southeast, Ménétréol-sur-Sauldre in the south, Souesmes in the southwest and Brinon-sur-Sauldre in the West and northwest.
