Peter Auer

Peter Auer (* 1954 in Regensburg ) is a German linguist .

Life

He studied general linguistics, German linguistics and sociology as well as psychology at the Universities of Cologne , Konstanz and Manchester . From 1980 to 1989 he was a research assistant and later assistant professor at the Faculty of Linguistics at the University of Konstanz , where he completed his doctorate in 1983 and a habilitation in 1988 .

In 1989 he was a Heisenberg fellow and later professor for German linguistics at the University of Hamburg . He turned down offers to the universities of Munich , Mainz and Bangor .

Since April 1998 he has been teaching as professor for German and General Linguistics at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg .
